It’s not About the Summit with Art Muir

Livestream

Art Muir started serious mountain climbing only after retiring from his law practice.

In the last 10 years he has climbed the highest mountains on 6 continents, including Mt. Everest, which he summited in 2021 at age 75 making him the oldest Westerner to do so.
He has also back-country skied in a number of remote locations around the world and engaged in some other challenging, but deeply rewarding, adventures.  Come listen as he shares his insight as an older adult into living an engaging and exciting post retirement life.
Art Muir grew up in Colorado and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968 with a degree in Political Science. He spent 3 years in the military with the United States Army before enrolling in the Wharton School of Finance in Philadelphia where he received an M.B.A. degree in Finance in 1972. Following Wharton he entered law school and received his J.D. degree from Northwestern University in 1976.  As of December 2023, he has climbed the highest mountains on 6 of the 7 continents, leaving only Carstensz Pyramid in Papua, which is currently closed to climbing. In May 2021 at the age of 75 he became the oldest Westerner to summit Mt. Everest. In December 2023 he became the oldest person to Ski the Last Degree to the South Pole and to climb Mt. Vinson, the highest mountain in Antarctica and in June 2024 he also became one of the oldest people to climb Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe. Mr. Muir lives with Leslie, his wife of 49 years, in Northbrook, Illinois. They have 3 children and six grandchildren.
