BRIDGING THE ICE is a documentary on the life and work of British explorer Gino Watkins, leader of the 1930 British Arctic Air Route Expedition which set out to explore Greenland’s coastal mountains and unknown Ice sheet to pioneer the first transatlantic air route. Before his untimely death in Greenland at age 25, Gino was praised as the founder of British kayaking and had already received the Polar medal from the King and was expected to be the next Shackleton. The film is produced by the Watkins family who visited Greenland to retrace Gino’s steps.
