Join travel writer Roberto Serrini in conversation with Alan Feldstein about his upcoming book, All the Stories I Couldn’t Tell.
Roberto Serrini is publishing his first tell-all book, All the Stories I Couldn’t Tell—a sort of Kitchen Confidential for the most notorious travel writer no one has ever heard of. How a kid who grew up in a basement on Long Island somehow managed to travel to all seven continents, mostly on someone else’s dime, is a mystery even to him. This talk attempts to make sense of it where his therapist has failed.
For nearly 25 years, Roberto has made a career out of going places he probably had no business being and writing about what happened when he got there. But the stories that make it into travel magazines are only half the story. Editors, tourism boards, sponsors, good taste, and occasionally international law have a way of determining what makes it onto the page. All the Stories I Couldn’t Tell is about everything that didn’t. You know … the good stuff.
Roberto will offer a rare glimpse into how someone stumbles into becoming an awared winning travel journalist despite being one of the world’s worst spellers, along with an excerpt from the new book. It will be funny. Occasionally harrowing. Constantly inappropriate. And, with any luck, it will make you reconsider some of your own life decisions on Roberto’s behalf.
About the Author
Roberto Serrini is a filmmaker, photographer, and travel writer who has spent the last 25 years finding increasingly elaborate ways to get other people to pay for his plane tickets. As Editor at Large for Get Lost Travel Magazine, his work has taken him across all seven continents, from places of extraordinary beauty to situations requiring considerably more explanation. An award-winning director and documentary filmmaker when he’s not wandering around the planet, Roberto is currently writing All the Stories I Couldn’t Tell, a collection of the stories behind the travel stories—the ones that, until now, were probably better left unpublished.
