Aging Marine Corps Veteran to Jay Foonberg.

“If I die climbing this hill, please tell my wife, I died a Marine.”

I asked myself: Why not; “Tell Her I loved her” or something similar? Why use his last breath, possibly wanted his last words, to be “I died a Marine?”

Off The Beaten Path

The Most Reproduced Photograph in The History of The World,
The United States Flag Raising on
Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima, Japan,
February 23, 1945

The Story:

  • The Battle For Iwo Jima-The Untold Story.
  • The truth about the flag raising.
  • Why Iwo Jima is so far off the beaten path that more Americans climb Mt. Everest every year than Mt. Suribachi. I have been there twice.
  • How the bloodiest battle in U.S. History saved millions of American and Japanese lives.
  • The roles of William Randolph Hearst and Douglas MacArthur, thousands of miles from the battle.
  • Why it cost 7,000 U.S. lives to capture 6 sq. miles.
  • Why the invasion fleet and landing force for Iwo Jima, 6 sq. miles, was larger than the invasion fleet for Normandy and the entire European continent.
  • Why a battle estimated to last 3-5 days lasted 7 weeks.
  • How the Code of the Samurai, and the concepts of Bushido and the Shinto religion influenced the battle.
  • How the difference between Jihadist suicide bombers and the Kamikazes resulted in diplomatic action by Japan.
  • Why the U.S. Marine Corps code of Semper Fidelity was superior to the Code of the Samurai.

The program is a tribute to Roy Roush #864, who fought in the Pacific in WW2 at Guadal Canal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian, giving him and others the recognition they have earned. This program is continuing education credit for Marine Corps Officers.

Cosmonauts Walking to their Soyuz Rocket at Baikonurz

Ever wondered what the training facilities and primary launch site of the Russia space program are like? In September 2016, Rich Abele, #1172, will be traveling to Russia to participate in an exclusive tour inside Russia’s space program sites. He will tour the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City (near Moscow), the premier training facility for Russian cosmonauts and foreign astronauts. Next he will explore the MIR Space Station simulator, visit the Soyuz-TMA integrated simulator and the International Space Station (ISS) mock-up, learn how the crews acquire the skills to walk in space, and tour the Star City Museum, which contains space vehicles, simulators, space suits and a reproduction of Yuri Gagarin’s office.

After touring Moscow’s Space Exploration Museum, his tour group will travel on a special flight to the Baikonur Cosmodrome located on the steppe of Kazakhstan to witness and participate in a rocket launch to the ISS. They will witness the roll-out of the Soyuz rocket, follow it to the launch pad and view the raising of the rocket together with the press, military personnel, cosmonauts and their relatives. Rich will meet the cosmonaut crew at a press conference and be able to ask questions of the ISS crew. Tours of the extensive launch facility will also be taken. On launch day Rich’s group will visit the Buran hangar where the rockets are assembled and tour the Energia and Proton launch pads. Finally, he will witness the actual launch of the cosmonauts aboard the Soyuz space vehicle as it blasts off to the ISS. Then it is onto the Mission Control Center to watch the satellite feed of the Soyuz docking.

Don’t forget to make a dinner reservation and invite your friends. This is a presentation on an exotic subject that you will not want to miss.
